3.5″ hard drive enclosure
3 January 2006Tonight I went to Fry’s and picked up a 3.5″ hard drive enclosure. It’s made by Adapatec and it’s pretty nice. I only got the USB 2.0 version, but they also have a version that supports firewire, but the laptop I use doesn’t have a firewire port. It was only 50 dollars, with a 10 dollars rebate, not too bad.

i bought one of those hdd enclosure from frys… and when i place the hard drive in the sata… and turned it on… no response… no light on the hdd …nothing…
the hdd’s are being tested because i plugged their previous enclosures into the socket with the wrong voltage cord… leaving them useless…
i was hoping that by taking the storage drives of those hard drives and plugging them into a new hdd enclosure, i would be able to see my info…
lastly, i’m using a mac…
any answers… would be great …

Justin,
Sounds like the hard drives are fried. Are you trying to recover data on the drive? If not, I’d just recommend getting new drives.
If you are trying to recover data, I would recommend trying to replace the PCB. Once a replaced a PCB on a hard drive, (found it on ebay), and was able to recover everything. I was a hero that day. =]
Here’s some info on the PCB:

Goodluck!
