Adsense vs YPN

As you may or may not have noticed, I run advertising on my website to help pay for the hosting fees. Some sites do quite well with these forms of advertising, but for a site such as mine it takes months upon months for me to get a check from these companies.

For quite some time, I was running YPN on my site. I can’t post exact figures due to their terms of service, but I can say that I was averaging 3 times as much using YPN. With that said, I can tell you I get a better click through ratio (CTR) with Adsense. However, YPN tends to pay better per click, so for a moderately low traffic website (4k to 5k unique visits/ month), YPN has come out ahead in all my testing for my particular site.

With that said, it really differs between sites. For some  sites that receive a lot of traffic, Adsense might do better for them. It might also depend on the content of their site. I notice much better ad targeting with Adsense than YPN, thus this may be a determining factor as well.

For the month of October I switched everything to Adsense but due to lackluster performance, beginning Nov 1st, I’m going to switch back to YPN and compare it to the October results. I’ll post back with my findings at the end of November as written about above to see if my analysis is correct.
