Something I ran across tonight was the integration of AIM instant messaging into your Gmail account. I haven’t been running an AIM client for awhile now, but decided to log into it in my Gmail account, which is my primary email account.

From what I can tell it seems to work well. However I think it’s still easy to miss conversations. I still prefer a separate client.
