USB 727 Review
21 July 2008
I recently picked up a USB 727 EVDO Modem. Prior to getting this new USB device I was using an internal EVDO card that is built inside my notebook. Lately I’ve been wanting to use my EVDO service on multiple devices so I decided to get an external device. I’m no stranger to external EVDO cards, I’ve used PCMCIA, Express Cards, and also have used the USB 720 sometime ago.
I use Verizon as my provider and something they let you do is swap the ESN numbers on their site. So at anytime I can switch between using my external EVDO card or using the internal card. However, you’re limited to one ESN swap per day. I wish they would bump it up to at least two, but it’s better than nothing.
This device is pretty nice, and is currently one of the smallest EVDO devices on the market. I notice when using this device compared to my internal card I get a better signal. Usually about one bar higher.
I know Sprint has an equivalent device to use with their service.
I also just purchased a Cradlepoint EVDO router which I’m looking forward to getting, it hasn’t arrived yet. One can never have enough Internet. :]
Cheers.
