Dell E6400

Mar 23 2008

image Engadget has been reporting on the new Dell notebooks that are coming soon, supposedly in June.

The one I’m interested in the most is the E6400 model, which is reported to be replacing the D630 model that I own.

Some of the new features are integrated GPS, LED Backlighting, eSATA port, Back-lit keyboard, and an optional integrated webcam. According to document specs, it’s also supposed to have a thinner and lighter design which is always welcomed.

I haven’t seen any high resolution pictures yet, but it appears they’re going with a more rounded case this time which will be really nice.

While I probably don’t need one since my D630 serves me fine, all these new features sure are tempting. I wasn’t going to say it, but way more exciting than the Macbook Air! =)

Cheers

Professional WordPress Themes

Mar 18 2008

image If you’re looking for a good content management system for your website you should definitely checkout WordPress. It’s what I use to power this site.

A theme is the overall look and design that surrounds your site. There are some pretty decent standard themes that come with WordPress, but they’re usually seen all over the place which is why I created my own custom look by writing my own CSS.

If you’re not a designer and coder and are looking for a very nice and professional looking theme for your WordPress site, take a look at the Revolution Themes at http://www.revolutiontheme.com.

These themes aren’t free, but are worth the professional look they provide. An example of one of these themes being used out in the site of Leo Laporte’s at http://leoville.com/.  He made his a little ugly by using backgrounds such as leaves, but it gives you an overall idea of how you can implement this theme into your site.

Apple Safari For Windows

Mar 18 2008

safariToday I discovered there is a version of Apple Web browser Safari for Windows. I’m always up to trying new things so downloaded it and installed it on my XP desktop.

I was mostly curious how my website performs with it, and wanted to see if anything is broken, but it appears everything looks good. There is a screenshot of my site in Safari on the right. Since I designed and coded my site to work with both IE and Firefox, I figured it would pretty much work in other browsers as well.

If you want to try Safari on your Windows system here is a link to download it.

Apple Safari For Windows

Cheers.

Update:

The more I’ve played with Safari for Windows, the more I’ve noticed that it looks fuzzy and not sharp and clear like Firefox and IE. I won’t be using it anymore for this reason alone. I’ve read in other blog posts if you go to to the appearance options and choose “light” for fonts, it helps. I tried, and it does help, but not completely. If you Google “safari for windows fuzzy“, you’ll see many people saying the same thing. Maybe Apple will fix it in a later version.

SanDisk Ultra® II SDHC™ Plus USB 4GB

Mar 13 2008

image I’ve always wanted  wanted one of these latest kind of SD cards since they’ve came out, and decided to finally buy one tonight. I had a 1GB SD card but gave it to someone else, so now I have an excuse since I don’t have an SD card right now!

The great thing about this SD card is that it converts to a USB device. All you have to do is pull it out of your camera and then plug in it. No need to worry about there being a media card reader. I’ve been using a Dell Attitude (Latitude) D630 for awhile, and these notebooks don’t have a media card reader, so this will be extra helpful.

I should get getting it in a week or so. I usually purchase everything online, it’s always cheaper. PriceGrabber is your friend.

Here is a link to it on SanDisk’s website. They also have an 8GB model, but I decided to save a few bucks and get the 4GB which I think will be plenty for me. I never even filled up my 1GB card, but now I can shoot all my pictures in the highest resolution.

Cheers.

3.18.08 -Update:

I was under the impression that this SD card works with all devices that accept SD cards, but that isn’t the case! Unfortunately for me, it doesn’t work with my digital camera. =( Well, I think this means I can buy a new digital camera now :) I’ve actually been meaning to buy a new cam for awhile because mine is a little old, bought around 2001 or 2002. I love the image stabilization features in the latest cameras. I don’t take a ton of photos though, so it hasn’t been a priority for me to upgrade my camera. Not including the cameras built into cell phones, I’ve actually only owned two digital cameras in my life. My first was one a clunker that stores images on a floppy drive, although very cool at the time.

This must be one of those copyrighted videos that YouTube has to unfortunately keep pulling down. Anyways, try this Youtube search and you’ll probably find it.

DELL UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC

Mar 10 2008

image A few weeks ago I decided I wanted a new monitor. I thought it would be pretty awesome to have a 30 inch LCD, so I purchased the 3007WFP-HC.

First, this is a pretty expensive monitor. I bought mine for about 1200.00 dollars.

I was really excited about it, but the monitor had a grainy effect to it. It was hurting my eyes. I’ve experienced this on some notebooks in the past as well. Some say it’s the the anti glare coating they put on them.

Based on that fact alone, I decided to return the monitor. I didn’t really get a chance to adjust to it, but I have to say it’s just too big I think. I’ve been waiting to get credited back my refund and I’m thinking about picking up a 24″ instead, either a Samsung or the Dell 2408WFP which is also cool because it has an HDMI port built in, and can do picture in picture. I just hope that Dell 24″ doesn’t have the same grainy effect that the 30″ I bought did.

Well stay tuned and in a few weeks I’ll post on what I decided.

Cheers. :]

Sprint Mogul Update Released Today

Mar 10 2008

As I mentioned a couple weeks ago, I’m now a Sprint Mogul user. Just in time, as today they’ve released a new update for the phone which upgrades the device to EVDO Rev A and in addition unlocks the GPS chip.

As you can imagine their servers have been pretty busy today. I am downloading the update and and looking forward to trying it!

Here is more information over at WMExperts, with links to download the update.

Update:

I’ve installed the new update and it’s awesome. The data speeds are very fast and I love using the GPS integrated with the Google Maps application. Now I have a camera, cell phone, mobile Internet, and GPS with me anywhere I go.
